Why not maximise expected tricks

The notes say the hard part is not choosing between lines but thinking of them. What follows from that?

• That the odds tables are the only thing worth learning
• That you learn the techniques and the shapes they live in, so a line comes to mind at the table
• That a computer is required to play a suit well
• That guessing is as good as anything once the suit is bad
